I'm a bit of a nightmare to be around right now...Thanks to the good folks over at the SMU Athletic forum.
The Doak Walker Award, given out by the SMU Athletic forum every year, is considered to be the award given to the best collegiate running back in the nation. For me...it is now little more than a sham.
As you may or may not know thanks to the big media machine, North Texas' very own Jamario Thomas leads the nation in rushing and all-purpose yards as a TRUE FRESHMAN. He's breaking and tying NCAA rushing records left and right. However, he's from North Texas. Therefore, you hear about Adrian Peterson from Oklahoma every night, even though his numbers aren't as good as Super Jamario's.
Sure, you can argue that J-Mo plays in the Sun Belt conference...but what about the 247 yards he put up on the Big XII's Colorado Buffaloes (who were, by the way, the 4th ranked rushing defense at the time)? What about the fact that he doesn't have a BCS quality defensive line to block for him? All Jamario has is...more talent than Adrian Peterson and a less than stellar blocking scheme in front of him.
Well, the Doak Walker committee has traditionally never considered freshmen for the award. In fact, they may have a rule against it. Well, last night, they decided to change the rule to accommodate Adrian Peterson. The nations SECOND BEST rusher. Therefore, the Doak is now a joke in my eyes and the eyes of many real college football fans. The fans of real football, not the Bullshit Championship System.
I've been a pissy bastard all day because of this. Therefore, I didn't have alot of fun at work today. Just in and out without any gusto. No real excitement to it today. CD players jammed on me twice...forcing me to BS on the fly. In the past, I had a real problem with this...but now, I think I'm learning the art of BSing to get through a catastrophe. That makes me happy.
Other things that make me happy? Getting to go to the last North Texas game of the season on last Saturday. I thought I was working at Sweeney 'til Sunday morning...but instead, I got off work at 1830 on Sat. night...therefore, I was able to haul ass to Denton, catch the second half and the insane happenings afterwards.
Lots of boozing again. For the first time in ages, I woke up on a couch and had no clue where I was. Damn tequila. :) It was nice to see everyone again. I've really missed them all this semester.
I should probably be producing that commercial that's due early in the morning...grrrr for deadlines. I personally think it works better as a live spot, but what are ya gonna do when you sold it as a produced spot.
And you know it's gonna be a good night when Willie Nelson comes on your Launchcast Station singing Pancho and Lefty. Ahh, how great it is to be a Texan and be able to understand and appreciate such things with such ease.
