Yep, this pretty much sums things up.
We're here and now,
But will we ever be again?
'Cause I have found
All that shimmers in this world
Is sure to fade
Away
Again
It's too far away for me to hold
It's too far away....
Guess I'll let it go

I'm actually up before 3pm on a Saturday!
Yesterday was a pretty good day. First time in a long time I didn't
really have anything to complain about. Hahahaha...
Went to work at KGAF at 1330...that gig is starting to get really easy. I've just figured out how to put it all together with ease...when to run my ad spots and how to time things down so I can hit the news off satellite.
After my airshift, I headed over to KPFC for a little bit of work...knocked out a few things and listened to Blain and Scott's voicetracks. I was so proud...beaming even. To think I taught those kids a little bit of what they know and, at 15, they're really good air talent...that makes me so proud. It was one of the most satisfying moments of my time working at Sweeney. *tear*
I guess I should shill for their show...they do it from their respective homes in Magnolia, AR and Dallas...Saturdays 4-7pm and Mondays & Wednesdays 7-9pm. Good stuff.
Anywhos...I'm about to head to work. Gotta make sure all of our ad spots are set and ready for tonight's broadcast...then I probably have to work the board for the game at 6. Hopefully, Big Tom will work it and let me go to the NT basketball game. Maureen is driving through here on her way back to Denton from OKC. We may or may not go grab a bite to eat. I'll keep ya posted on that...LOL.
I'd better head out.
And I'm out...

Quote of the night...
Me: My U2 DVD gives me wood.
Phil Brown: so U2 is your cialis...now if this continues for 4 hrs, you may want to call bono
*Yawn...*
Lots of U2 lately. Watching lots of mt "Live from Boston" DVD. The damn thing gives me chills. Getting really excited about the new album.
Went for a run last night. Forgot how amazing that felt. One thing is for sure...I'm incredibly outta shape. I think I'm gonna go for another tonight.
North Texas is on TV tonight. Not sure if we get that channel here at the house though. :-\ Super Jamario is getting TONS of press. Thanks SMU Athletic Forum!
I better get going...lots to do. No time to do it in. I kinda over slept by a couple of hours. So now I have less than 2 hrs before work. Hoorah!
Until next time...for Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit, I'm Dub Winters for ESPN College Gameday.

Free Jamario!
The Doak Walker Award, given out by the SMU Athletic forum every year, is considered to be the award given to the best collegiate running back in the nation. For me...it is now little more than a sham.
As you may or may not know thanks to the big media machine, North Texas' very own Jamario Thomas leads the nation in rushing and all-purpose yards as a TRUE FRESHMAN. He's breaking and tying NCAA rushing records left and right. However, he's from North Texas. Therefore, you hear about Adrian Peterson from Oklahoma every night, even though his numbers aren't as good as Super Jamario's.
Sure, you can argue that J-Mo plays in the Sun Belt conference...but what about the 247 yards he put up on the Big XII's Colorado Buffaloes (who were, by the way, the 4th ranked rushing defense at the time)? What about the fact that he doesn't have a BCS quality defensive line to block for him? All Jamario has is...more talent than Adrian Peterson and a less than stellar blocking scheme in front of him.
Well, the Doak Walker committee has traditionally never considered freshmen for the award. In fact, they may have a rule against it. Well, last night, they decided to change the rule to accommodate Adrian Peterson. The nations SECOND BEST rusher. Therefore, the Doak is now a joke in my eyes and the eyes of many real college football fans. The fans of real football, not the Bullshit Championship System.
I've been a pissy bastard all day because of this. Therefore, I didn't have alot of fun at work today. Just in and out without any gusto. No real excitement to it today. CD players jammed on me twice...forcing me to BS on the fly. In the past, I had a real problem with this...but now, I think I'm learning the art of BSing to get through a catastrophe. That makes me happy.
Other things that make me happy? Getting to go to the last North Texas game of the season on last Saturday. I thought I was working at Sweeney 'til Sunday morning...but instead, I got off work at 1830 on Sat. night...therefore, I was able to haul ass to Denton, catch the second half and the insane happenings afterwards.
Lots of boozing again. For the first time in ages, I woke up on a couch and had no clue where I was. Damn tequila. :) It was nice to see everyone again. I've really missed them all this semester.
I should probably be producing that commercial that's due early in the morning...grrrr for deadlines. I personally think it works better as a live spot, but what are ya gonna do when you sold it as a produced spot.
And you know it's gonna be a good night when Willie Nelson comes on your Launchcast Station singing Pancho and Lefty. Ahh, how great it is to be a Texan and be able to understand and appreciate such things with such ease.

Someday...
You say you want
Diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want
Your story to remain untold
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You say you’ll give me
A highway with no one on it
Treasure just to look upon it
All the riches in the night
You say you’ll give me
Eyes in a moon of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbour in the tempest
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You say you want
Your love to work out right
To last with me through the night
You say you want
Diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold
All the promises we break
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You...all I want is...
You...all I want is...
You...all I want is...
You...
Real update coming soon...

Quick Hits...
Sipping on my 2nd OJ and Parrot Bay of the night...more Parrot Bay than OJ...does that make me an alcoholic? I don't know that there's a name for OJ and coconut rum, so I think I'm going to start calling it Nicole Brown Simpson's Last Tropical Vacation. Maybe I'm just trying too hard on that one.
To steal a line from Dearing...I'm not gonna lie, it's been a pretty good week. Even though I'm barely working 5 hours a day, I feel a sense of accomplishment. I just feel like I'm finally starting to get going in the direction I need to be in. And it's nice to have that feeling for once. I even feel like I'm getting things done at KPFC even though I'm only there 2 days a week. Next stop on the Justin Winters Radio Station Tour: KHYI-FM...or the UK(?).
I've been thinking about looking for a temporary radio gig at a UK radio station...perhaps in London or Manchester. I could be the token American with a Texas accent. You can't tell me that wouldn't be sweet.
I think I could make it in the UK. I've been watching lots of football on TV lately. I'm watching Manchester United v. Manchester City on Fox Sports World right now. I've developed a little bit of a liking for English Premeirship League Football and rugby. Hooray for expanded cable channels. More reason for me to want to go to England.
This weekend is a home weekend for North Texas basketball and football...and I have to miss it. Grrrrr... I have to be the 'on-site contact' all weekend at Camp Sweeney for a men's retreat for Denton Bible Church. It went ok last year...really nice people, easy to deal with, plenty of KPFC time...but I really hate missing these home games. My boys Barnett and Micah will both probably get playing time tomorrow night...and it's Scott Hall & Co.'s last game at Fouts Field. That sucks. Oh well.
Speaking of North Texas...Mean Green RB Jamario Thomas was featured on a FOXSports.com web poll titled "Who is your Heisman Trophy pick?". Leave it to the Mean Green fans to go nuts on the voting to where Super Jamario goes form having something like 2% of the votes to leading Heisman favorite Adrian Peterson by more than 6 percentage points. Then FOXSports.com decided to be dicks about it and take his name off of there since he doesn't fit into their BCS agenda. F--k the BCS. Bring on the playoff system!
I got recognized by some random person today at the grocery store. I was wearing my Red Sox hat (on the air I mention my love for the Sox and how I wear my hat all the time). I was in line and talking to someone and some old lady asked me if I was the guy from KGAF because she recognized my voice and my Red Sox hat...I felt so special. I'm a celebrity. Sweet! OK...maybe not.
I gotta work in the morning at 9 since I won't be doing my afternoon show from 2-5...and I've only cut vocals on all my ad spots. They shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to finish, but it's probably not the smartest thing I've done in a while. Eh, when have I ever done anything that was really thought out?
Really quick...I added the VidPick of the Day. I'm not sure how long I'm going to keep this since Grumby.com seems to be going down (therefore the codes are inaccessible right now) and it may be an annoyance to people visiting the blog. It shouldn't loop or anything, just once. Also, check out the hotlinks for new linkage including: KGAF-AM and a great college basketball blog by Yoni Cohen ('any relation to Sacha Baron?', I wonder...Jagshemash!).
Until next time..."I love your hair, support your local radio DJ (financially or with sexual favors are a good start), and Go Mean Green!".

Ahhh, good stuff...
The first from a rerun of The West Wing.
President Bartlet: I like how, on your show, you call homosexuality an abombination.
Jenna Jacobs: I don't say homosexuality is an abomination, Mr. President, the Bible does.
President Bartlet: Yes, it does. Leviticus.
Jenna Jacobs: 18:22.
President Bartlet: Chapter and verse. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I have you here. I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown sophmore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff Leo McGarry insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town: touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? "Think about that, will you? Oh, and one last thing. You may have mistaken this for your meeting of the ignorant tight-asses club but in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits.
Ahhh, good stuff...this next one is really cliche, I know. But, I think it's freakin' genius. It's from Good Will Hunting.
So if I asked you about art you’d probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written...Michelangelo? You know a lot about him. Life's work, political aspirations, him and the pope, sexual orientation, the whole works, right? But I bet you can't tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You've never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling. Seen that.....If I asked you about women you'd probably give me a syllabus of your personal favorites. You may have even been laid a few times. But you can't tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy. You're a tough kid. I ask you about war, and you'd probably--uh--throw Shakespeare at me, right? "Once more into the breach, dear friends." But you've never been near one. You've never held your best friend's head in your lap and watched him gasp his last breath, looking to you for help. And if I asked you about love y'probably quote me a sonnet. But you've never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable. Known someone could level you with her eyes. Feeling like! God put an angel on earth just for you...who could rescue you from the depths of hell. And you wouldn't know what it’s like to be her angel and to have that love for her to be there forever. Through anything. Through cancer. You wouldn't know about sleeping sittin’ up in a hospital room for two months holding her hand because the doctors could see in your eyes that the term visiting hours don't apply to you. You don't know about real loss, because that only occurs when you love something more than you love yourself. I doubt you've ever dared to love anybody that much. I look at you; I don't see an intelligent, confident man; I see a cocky, scared shitless kid. But you're a genius, Will. No one denies that. No one could possibly understand the depths of you. But you presume to know everything about me because you saw a painting of mine and you ripped my fuckin' life apart. You're an orphan right? Do you think I'd know the first thing about how hard your life has been, how you feel, who you are because I read Oliver Twist? Does that encapsulate you? Personally, I don't give a shit about all that, because you know what? I can't learn anything from you I can't read in some fuckin' book. Unless you wanna talk about you, who you are. And I'm fascinated. I'm in. But you don't wanna do that, do you, sport? You're terrified of what you might say. Your move, chief.
Don't know why I felt the need to share these...more to have them written down somewhere for myself, I guess.

Oh, What a weekend...
What a weekend...
After a long week of rockin' out to the greatness of classic country music while working the afternoon shift at 1580 KGAF-AM, I decided to treat myself to a weekend in beautiful Denton, Texas with the Crew.
I took off for Denton right after the Callisburg football game. North Texas was playing Louisana-Lafayette in the late game on ESPN 2, but I would up missing most of the telecast. Luckily, I had George Dunham and Hank Dickinson on 88.1 KNTU to bring me the action during the drive.
Got to Denton around 2315 or so...wound up meeting with Cody, Margee, and Barnett at Adrienne's. We watched the rest of the game, then headed out for Fry St. Went to Muther's because we thought Grant F--kin' Jones was playing there. Turns out it was Monkeyshyne, instead...so not quite as fun. Kelly got hit on repeatedly by an incredibly drunk man who was at least in his mid-forties. Hahahahaha! Me, Cody, and JB wandered over to Tavern where we bought a couple of shots. My shot of Jack had something in it. I think it was cigarette ash or something. Either way, I nearly puked when it hit my throat just out of reflex. You don't expect anything solid to hit your throat when your dropping shots.
After Tavern, we headed over to Sidebar to hunt down some 'friends'. 'Friends' meaning 'softball chicks'. They weren't there and we wound up leaving upon learning this...meaning we dropped a $2 cover for nothing really. Eh, oh well...you win some, you lose some.
Went back to the A-P-T-Dot with Cody and dozed off on the couch 'til about noon...woke up and watched Jason play Tiger Woods 2005 for Lamont only knows how long...then managed to doze off for another 2 hours. Hooray for sleepin'!
Woke up in time to go grab a bite to eat with Dearing. We wound up meeting Cullen at Chipotle, but it turns out that there's a new wing joint next door...so Cullen got a burrito and came next door where Dearing and I had managed to order 50 wings. Yes, we're a couple of overeating fatasses...
[sidenote: This was the first time I've met the famous Cullen and what can I say...? 'Cool chick' pretty much sums it up. I proposed to her at the basketball game for being close to perfect. It could have been the pre-game shots talking, though. I'm not sure if she said yes, though. I'm pretty sure it was 'No'... :)]
Me, Cody, Kevin, Dearing, and Koos (who we made get outta the shower and take his still wet and half-naked) all dropped a shot of Captain Morgan's before we headed out for the Super Pit and the first official night of The North Texas Pit Crew. Had a blast at the game! The team looks really good and Barnett got to start. To top it all off, we had a 20+ point lead towards the end of the game...so we started a "We Want Micah!" chant and sure enough, Coach Jones let him into the game. You shoulda heard us...you'd think we had just won the NCAA Tournament or something. :)
Hit up Taco Cabana after the game with the crew. Dropped Matty off at Kerr Hall so he could hit the hay...and we hit up the store for some alcoholic beverages. We got a bunch of beer and two 40's for myslelf in honor of those Notre Damers...and my homies, of course.
Went over to JC, drank hardcore for a few hours. Good times with the crew...minus Cody...wuss. Two 40's and something like 9 Miller High Lifes later, I was trying to sober up pretty quick. Luckily, someone made the call to go to Whataburger...food that cures all ills. Be it drunkeness, the flu, maybe even cancer...I swear by the bacon double Whataburger as a cure. And sure enough, a bacon double and some water made me sober as a goat.
Me and Kevin rolled back to the Fountains...I got my stuff and drove home at close to 0615 with a beautiful Texas sunrise coming up on my righthand side the whole way home. Now THAT is how you finish out a helluva a great night...watching the sun come up. I crawled into bed at 0700. Damn, I miss being able to do that every weekend. I've gotta do it again soon.
Thanks to Cody, Dearing, the Koos for putting me up...Margee, Kelly, Adrienne, Heather, and Barnett for the good times on Fry St....and Micah F'ing Bracy for getting into the game...Cullen and Drunky Holly for being hilarious and cracking me up. I needed a weekend like this. You all freakin' kick ass.
So, when you're done
Doing whatever,
And when you're
through
Doing whoever,
You know Denton County
Will be right here
waiting for you.
Amen.

Ahhh, good times...
So, without further ado, a lovely comment and my rebuttal.
<-- "Listen, I don't give a shit if you don't like Bush, but you've gotta at least support your president. You should be thankful that you live in a country that is democratic, yeah Kerry lost but so what, at least you put your say in.
Bush is a christian along with most americans, but the war in Iraq has nothing to do with Jesus. Saddam Hussein has been a threat to innocent people for decades, he waged war on Kuwait simply to take them over. He was a threat to democracy and after September 11, Bush didn't want to risk any other terrorist attacks.
It isn't you that should be disappointed in America, it is America that should be disappointed in you. You don't support your president and you are a sore looser.
Plus, it doesen't really even matter who is president; all a president does is carry things out (such as laws, wars, ideas). The president can't do anything that can really harm our nation because he has everyone keeping him in check.
Kerry and his supporters claim that Bush has lost more jobs than any president in 75 years. This is a Bogus claim because it isn't the president's fault, the exact same thing would have happened to Kerry if he were in office the same time Bush was. September 11 screwed our economy into the ground and there was nothing Bush could do about it.
I know you Justin Winters, and I know that you don't support homosexuality. John Kerry has totally corrupt moral values. Before you go being disappointed in our nation, maybe you should get your facts straight." -->
First and foremost, no one HAS to support their president. Nowhere on the books does it say "American Citizens MUST support their president." Sorry, Charlie,we don't live in a dictatorship (or do we). That said, I (along with most Americans that voted for Kerry) will get behind our leaders in hopes that our country will progress in the right directions. I will get behind the president, but also keep a watchful eye on the Bush Administration to keep them in check.
See, the problem with the war in Iraq is that we shouldn't be there. Are the Iraqi people better off without him? Sure, no doubt. The thing is, the Bush Administration had been planning to take Saddam out from day one. They used Sepember 11, 2001 as an excuse to go after him when they knew that there were nations like Iran and North Korea that really deserved to be taken out. There are several nations that we should have been more worried about than Iraq. However, none of those nations' leaders had tried to kill George W.'s daddy. I truly believe we're doing good things in Iraq...I really do. On the other hand though, we're being viewed as an occupying force because we have no real exit strategy. That worries me. And the fact that we went in there without the support of the UN is a little fucked up as well. So many people don't get the fact that we NEED the respect of the other countries in the UN. Sure, France has always hated us. Hell, I'll go as far as to say "France Sucks". I've been there, I hated it. I hated the people there and the smell of Paris. But, whether we like it or not, France matters.
The rest of the world looks at us the same way we look at Islamic governments. They see us as a Christian government. It's why they hate us and can't understand what we do. Yes, most of our nation IS Christian. I am a Christian. But, last I checked, we have laws against mixing politics and religion. And that is essentially what this administration is trying to do. This administration sees ALL Islam as a terrorist threat because of their Christian views.
I don't blame Bush for the economy. I believe he's done the best he could do considering the circumstances. Nowhere have I stated that he deserves the blame for the post 9/11 economy. The job cuts aren't his fault either. Enron wasn't his fault, either. I don't know why this point was even brought up. I agree with you that Kerry could not have done any better considering what happened.
You say that you know me and that I don't support homosexuality. You're right. I don't necessarily support it. I will go on record as saying that I don't agree with the homosexual lifestyle. That, however, doesn't mean I believe that homosexuals don't have rights. I have many friends of various sexual orientations and, though I don't necessarily agree with their lifestyles, I DO belive they have rights. This nation was founded on the words "All men are created equal". How is creating legislation prohibiting homosexuals the right to marry any different than prohibiting the marriages of biracial couples? It's not. As long as you are a human being, you have the right to marry another human being. The fundamentalist Christian right want us to believe that allowing homosexuals to marry will lead to the legal marriages of man and beast. Are you kidding me? These are humans wanting to marry the fellows human they love. No matter the issues you may have with their lifestyles, they deserve be treated like humans. And they're for sure no more sexually deviant than the majority of preachers and politicians.
Finally, how do you know what John Kerry's moral values are? Let me guess, you base that on his pro-choice beliefs. Do you really think that John Kerry wants people to kill babies? Yes, that's it. (I don't agree with abortion, but I'm smart enough to know that the pro-lifers are never going to have it overturned. Therefore, I don't dwell on it.) What makes George W. Bush such an authority on moral values? Because he's a 'good Christian'? We know nothing about the true moral character of either candidate.
Good times, kids. I promise I'll get a little less serious about this whole blogging thing sooner or later. :)
I give in...
America, I'm disappointed. I really thought you had the balls to kick this evil administration out of office. I guess we can continue to wage more war in the name of Jesus. Hooray!

12:54am CDT...is America Dumber Than I Thought?
What do they know, know, know
Go to work in some high rise
And vacation down at the Gulf of Mexico
Ooh, yeah
And there's winners and there's losers
But they ain't no big deal
'Cause the simple man, baby
Pays for thrills
The bills the pills that kill
Oh, but ain't that America
For you and me
Ain't that America
Something to see, baby
Ain't that America
Home of the free, yeah
Little pink houses
For you and me
12:01am CDT
Please God, give us a miracle. I can't imagine 4 more years of this shit.
And the race is on...
www.Zogby.com is predicting a Kerry victory 311-213 with 2 states too close to call. Of course, this isn't exactly a poll...just throwing some numbers together from various polls and 2000's final numbers.
We can only hope they're right.
I'm tired as hell...I took a nap last night from 1930 to 2315, then worked on my blog until about 0430...and slept from 0530 to 0700. Therefore, I'm exhausted, but want to stay up all night watching the election returns. I love this stuff...it's exciting!
On a completely different note, CBS Sportsline is running an online poll involving North Texas' very own Jamario Thomas. Of course, he started out with no respect because he's not on a B(c)S team like Adrian Peterson. However, slowly but surely, he's getting some votes. I don't know when this poll will close, but it's still open as I write this entry (1725 Nov. 2, 2004), so click on the pic of Jamario and vote once again on this Election Day. Feel free to commit some voter fraud and delete your cookies and vote many times over. ;)
Vote Jamario Thomas! (bottom left of page)
More to come...

Just back from voting...
Got there at 0735 and sat down at the table with my ballot. Got to crackin' immediately with my vote for John Kerry. About halfway down my ballot, I hear the unmistakable baritone of my Papa...being his usual loud, a-little-too-outgoing self...followed by the "SHHH!" that I knew could only be my Nanny. Interestingly enough...if I recall correctly...I ran into them back in 2000, as well. I love living in small town America where you can unintentionally run into your grandparents at the polls in two consecutive presidential elections.
Nanny and Papa got their ballots and walked behind me on their way to an empty table. I made sure to cover my vote for John Kerry as my Papa grabbed the back of my neck (like he always does) when he walked by. Nanny knows I'm voting Kerry this time...but I think it might spark a major disagreement if Papa finds out. Both are hardcore Conservative Christians and HUGE Bush supporters. I love them just the same. ;)
Looks like it's about to rain AGAIN...it's been raining off and on since late Friday night. Thank God, the temperatures are finally getting close to what they should be in November. It was freakin' 85 all last week. Right now it's a lovely 53 outside with a projected high of 58. That said, Normal Texas Weather Theory tells us that it will either snow or be 90 degrees next week.
I think I'm gonna find something breakfast-like to eat around here. I've been living off of Halloween candy (well, I've been picking the Three Musketeers outta the bowl) for a couple of days now.
Look for new link buttons later today...I think I'm going to link a few friends' Xangas since they seem to have to be attention whores and use Xanga. Adios!

Less than six hours to go....
**Editor's Note: I've decided to make this blog more than a photo blog. Though most posts will be in photo-form, I will be using it as a regular blog as well...
We're less than six hours away from the most important election of our lifetime. I could go on a tirade about why you should vote for Kerry. Instead, I'll let someone who, though I disagree with him on many things, has hit it on the head once again.
Just a couple of things from me. Bush invokes the names of JFK and FDR all the time...remember kids, they were liberals. I'm by no means a hardcore liberal and I consider myself a follower of Jesus Christ, but I do feel that it's the Right-Wing Conservative Christians that are holding this nation back from being great. And don't forget...I WAS a Right-Wing Conservative Christian in the last election.
I voted for Bush for the exact reasons I now want him out. As a Conservative Christian, I wanted a President that listened to Jesus before he listened to anyone else. And, though I think a man's faith is an important thing, he must remember that 50 of the people he serves and the majority of the world do not believe in Christianity. I'm not a fan of using Jesus as an excuse to bomb and occupy countries. That's close to making us no different than the Islamic terrorists. Jesus taught peace. Jesus Christ was the original bleeding-heart liberal. Christ wasn't a warmonger. Get that through your skulls, church-going public.
That's enough from me...I'm just thinking alot tonight. Whoever you vote for...be it Kerry, Bush, Nader, Badnarik, or George Jetson...just get your ass out to the polls tomorrow and let your voice be heard. I know that's a cliche thing to say, but it's the truth.
God Bless America...
